There was a marriage in Cana of Galilee that Jesus’ mother attended. Jesus was also there with his disciples. —John 2:1–2
A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha. It was Mary who had anointed the Lord with expensive perfume, and wiped his feet with her hair. The sisters sent word to him, saying, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.” —John 11:1–2
God’s calling often shows up to us in everyday relationships and events. Jesus performed his first miracle at a wedding he attended simply because he was invited. He went to visit Lazarus because a close friend was sick.
These were ordinary social settings—yet within them, Jesus was called into extraordinary moments. Likewise, God often positions us in very human situations where he reveals unexpected purposes.
Wherever you are—at work, at home, among friends—consider that God has allowed you to be there for a reason. Ask him, “Lord, what are you doing here?” and “How can I participate in it?”
