I now understand why authors often struggle to write acknowledgements—for fear of overlooking someone important. Over the past twenty-five years, many have walked alongside me and helped shape this process, and I’m certain that by naming only a few, I risk leaving others out. With that in mind, I’ve chosen to acknowledge those who are closest to me today, as well as two men whose impact in Africa has been foundational—where this ministry has flourished the most at the time of this writing.

In Africa

In the early years, Mbusa Thaluliba partnered with me while studying at Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (NEGST). Through his leadership and commitment, tremendous life change occurred in the lives of those he discipled. His friend, Felicien Nemeyimana, first inspired the training of pastors and church leaders across Africa using the Listening to Jesus tool. Mbusa helped develop and lead that training, including a curriculum that is still in use today. Without these two men, this ministry would not be what it is today.

In the United States

I am deeply thankful for my ministry oversight team at my outpost within Mercy Road Church: Angela Joseph, Kari Kuper, Dan Loomis, and Eric Maitlen. Your support, prayer, and counsel have been instrumental in the continued growth of this ministry.

I also want to thank my creative team, which includes Eric Maitlen, Jenna Kruse, and Megan Mellinger. Special thanks to Jenna, who served as editor and repeatedly went above and beyond to understand what I was trying to say—and say it better. That said, I had the final word, so any errors or omissions are mine.
