The Abiding Worksheet
Let this worksheet guide you through the seven foundational tSOAR categories of Jesus’ teaching whenever you are experiencing difficulty—whether from anxiety, temptation, relational conflict, or some other persistent problem. Use it as a tool to slow down, reflect, and hear what God wants to teach you as you walk through the situation.
Time
Take time to be alone with Jesus. Create space to meet with him without distractions.
Truth
Gently face the truth of your current situation with Jesus. Reflect and write:
1. What issue is prompting you to use this worksheet?
What’s going on right now?
2. Who or what is being impacted by it?
Consider people, relationships, responsibilities, or areas of your life that are affected.
3. What are the implications if nothing changes?
What’s at stake spiritually, emotionally, or practically?
4. How are you being affected emotionally?
Examples: fear, sadness, anger, guilt, hopelessness.
5. How have you contributed to the situation?
Be honest and self-reflective.
6. What truths from Scripture apply to this situation?
List any relevant verses or biblical principles that come to mind.
Trust
Affirm your trust in the Father.
He has allowed this situation, and he has a purpose for it. Acknowledge your trust in his wisdom, goodness, and sovereignty.
Surrender
Release what you cannot control or change.
Surrender it into God’s hands with faith and humility.
Obey
Ask Jesus what step(s) he is calling you to take. Write down what you sense he is leading you to do:
As you obey, you should begin to experience a renewed sense of peace and closeness with Christ as you once again abide in him.
Reconcile
Take responsibility for any harm you may have caused. Ask God to reveal if you need to reconcile with someone.
Ask their forgiveness if appropriate:
This worksheet is not just a tool for resolution—it’s a path back into the peace and presence of Jesus, where truth and grace meet.
Opening Reflection: tSOAR
You will find a reference to the tSOAR acronym throughout this book, specifically during the Weekly Review on Day 7 of each week. It is a tool for easily remembering the basic categories of Jesus’ teaching, and reflecting on each of these areas of growth in your personal discipleship journey. While technically it should be tttSOAR, there was initially only one “t,” so I’ve decided to stick with the shorter version. It means:
Take time to be alone with God.
Note any truth he reveals to you.
Trust that the Lord has allowed all your life circumstances for his good purposes.
Surrender all to him and accept all that he allows in your life.
Obey any commands he reveals to you.
Abide in him by embracing his continual presence.
Help reconcile others to him as he provides opportunities.
When you encounter more serious, significant, or painful issues in your life, the Abiding Worksheet on the next page is designed to guide you through the tSOAR elements in an interactive way.
