“I am the vine. You are the branches. If you remain in me, and I in you, you will produce much fruit, but apart from me you can do nothing. If any do not remain in me, they are like a branch that is thrown out and dies. People gather such branches, throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in me, and obey my teachings, you can ask whatever you want, and it will be done for you.
If you bear much fruit, it brings glory to my Father. I have loved you as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. If you obey my teaching, you will remain in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s teaching and remain in his love. I have said these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full.
This is my command, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.” —John 15:5–12
Abiding is the foundation for fullness of life in Christ. As we live in him, hear his voice, and obey, everything begins to change. Joy becomes deeper. Love becomes more natural. Fruit is produced—not through striving, but through connection. And from this abiding relationship, the final element of discipleship—reconciliation—flows naturally. We desire others to experience what we are beginning to know: a life fully alive in Jesus.
