“Two sparrows are sold for a small coin, but not even one of them can die without your Father knowing it. God even knows the number of hairs on your head. So do not be afraid. You are worth much more than many sparrows.” —Matt. 10:29–31
God is our protection and strength. He always helps in times of trouble. So, we will not be afraid even if the earth shakes, or the mountains fall into the sea; even if the oceans roar and foam, or the mountains shake at the raging sea. —Ps. 46:1–3
Disasters, suffering, and tragedy often shake our sense of security. But Jesus makes it clear: nothing escapes the Father’s knowledge. He is not absent in your pain. Even when evil men act or natural disasters strike, God remains sovereign—working even the worst things for his redemptive purpose.
For God’s primary purpose is to reconcile the world to himself so they might know him and be conformed to the image of Christ. In a world marred by the sin of man, God will often use the ‘bad things’ to bring about his greater redemptive work in our lives.
In the midst of life’s mysteries, trust means asking not, “Why did this happen?” but “Lord, what are you revealing in this?” As challenging as it is, faith grows most deeply in seasons of hardship. Even there, God says, “Do not be afraid” (Matt. 10:31).
