Pilate said, “So you are a king?”
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason, I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should tell people the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to me.”
Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” —John 18:37–38
“Everyone who hears my words and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. It rained hard and floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, but it did not fall, because it was built on rock. Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not obey them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. It rained hard, and floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” —Matt. 7:24–27
Jesus said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain faithful to my teaching, then you are truly my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” —John 8:31–32
In a world where truth often seems relative or unknowable, Jesus makes a bold claim: he came to testify to the truth, and those who belong to the truth listen to him. Pilate cynically responds, “What is truth?”—a question still echoed in today’s culture.
Jesus’ answer to that question is not a theory but an invitation: listen, obey, and build your life on his words. When we align with his truth, we gain stability—like the house built on a rock—and the freedom that comes with it.
