Jesus answered, If I give honor to myself, that honor is nothing. It is my Father who gives me honor, of whom you say that he is our God. You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, ‘I do not know him,’ I would be a liar like you. But I know him and obey what he says. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.”

“You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”

Jesus said to them, Most certainly, I tell you, before Abraham came into existence, I AM.” John 8:54–58

Moses said to God, “When I come to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you;’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ What should I tell them?”

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM,” and he said, “You shall tell the children of Israel this: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “You shall tell the children of Israel this, ‘God, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This will always be the name by which I am known. —Ex. 3:13–15

When Jesus declared, “Before Abraham was born, I AM,” he wasn’t just making a poetic statement. He was identifying himself with the very God who spoke to Moses at the burning bush. That name—I AM—is God’s eternal identity.

Jesus is not simply a great teacher, prophet, or spiritual leader. He is God in the flesh. This foundational truth should shape everything we believe and how we live. Only when we truly trust in Jesus as God can we surrender fully, obey wholeheartedly, and believe confidently in his unseen presence and power.
